The fact that Organic Islands has vertically integrated production processes, makes us capable of having complete control and responsibility for the quality of our products, from the initial planting of the herbs in our fields, until their final packaged form that consumers receive in their hands. At present we cultivate 100,000 square meters of privately owned fields with 16 species of herbs and citrus fruits, whereas for the processing and packaging our products we own two modern fully equipped units.

Production at all stages is certified by independent organizations (DIO) and the company follows the procedures and practices that ensure the health and safety of its products, according to EN ISO 22000: 2005 standards.

Thyme – Organic Islands

Thyme (Thymus Vulgaris) is a native plant of western Europe. Its name comes from the greek verb for sacrifice, since the ancient Greeks used to burn fresh branches of thyme during their sacred ceremonies where they offered incenses to their gods. Thyme was a symbol of strength and bravery. It is also known that thyme has been used by Sumerians, Egyptians and Romans.

Ingredients: Organic Thyme leaves and blossoms.

The leaves and blossoms of thyme with the strong, mildly spicy rich flavour are used as a spice for scenting various foods. The two basic essential oils contained in thyme, thymol and carvacrol, give thyme special antibacterial, antifungal and antiseptic properties.

Traditionally it has been used as antispasmodic in cough, as an expectorant and for curing upper respiratory infections. It is considered to be a booster for the immune system and can be used for prolepsis of infections. It is a strong antiseptic for the gastrointestinal and urinal system.

Directions: In cooking is used as a seasoning to flavor meats, fish, sauces and cheeses. It can also be used on vegetables, salads and pasta, in marinades and to flavor oil.

For herbal tea. Add one teaspoon of herb per cup of hot water and steep covered, for 4-5 minutes. Strain and enjoy hot or iced, plain or add sweetener to taste
